The European Roma Information Office (ERIO) is looking for a video editor to prepare a short video about our campaign We Are Roma which aims to fight discrimination Roma face as a consequence of prejudices and stereotypical images that non-Roma have about the Roma culture. Moreover, it aims to promote Roma culture and identity.

The short video will be around 3 minutes and will consist of photos, video interventions of speakers from a conference. All this material will be provided by ERIO. The video editing can be done by distance; therefore the person does not need to be located in Brussels.

Person specification

  • Video editing, cutting and subtitle experience, especially in short videos
  • Have the necessary editing material
  • Fluent English skills, with the ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Reliability and professional attitude
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently
Main tasks

The role will mainly involve the following tasks:
  • Editing (cleaning images, reframing, overlapping, movement cut, synchronization, noise sound removal with equalization and without echo, colour treatment)
  • Research for adequate free music
  • When needed, attend Skype meetings with the responsible project staff member

Job purpose:
  • The Administration officer will assist the Executive Director in the daily management of the organization and the smooth running of the office. She/he will take the responsibility of the effective human resources management and finances and book-keeping of ERIO. The Administration officer is also a key focal point for Belgian affairs and the initial contact for Belgian institutions and ERIO network member
  • The Administration officer is appointed by the Executive Director. She/ he reports to the Executive Director.
Job function

Main tasks
  • Take responsibility for the effective running of the ERIO office.When necessary acts as a personal assistant to the Executive Director.On a day to day basis manage the human resources and financial procedures of ERIO.
  • Responsible for ERIOs financial reporting: prepares the quarterly, six months and annual financial reports according to the donors’ and project based requirements.Close cooperation with the external book-keeping agency which will overlook (audit) the financial state and affairs of ERIO.
  • Under the supervision of the Director draft the annual budget of ERIO.
  • Be the focal point for all issues regarding Belgian law, regulations and procedures and make sure legal advise and legal assistance is available when and if necessary.
  • Makes arrangements for the Executive Director and the other staff when traveling abroad including: meetings with individuals or organizations, conference registration, travel tickets, accommodation etc.
  • Respond on a regular basis to queries from Roma NGOs regarding issues related to EU institutions
  • Respond to interested parties about the activities of ERIO.
  • Organizes the logistical aspects of ERIO’s Board and Assemble meetings such as travel, accommodation, catering etc.
  • In close cooperation with the Executive Director assist the arrangements of meetings of Roma delegation coming to meet with EU officials. Assist with the logistics in organizing different events, conferences and trainings.
  • Take day to day responsibility in the administrative field ensuring that local by-law, internal organization rules and travel policy are respected
  • Support the Executive Director in establishing and maintaining a network of contacts in relevant EU and other international institutions.
Essential requirements
  • At least three years’ experience in administrative office work.
  • Academic degree in appropriate field
  • To be familiar with the EU institutions and their activities.
  • Experience in administering finances budgeting and budget control.
  • Experience in organizing conferences and other similar events.
  • To be able to work in team and to organize the workflow timely and effectively.
  • To be with good communication skills.
  • To be fluent in English and knowledge of French or Dutch.
Desired requirement
  • Experience in developing funding proposals and budget
  • Knowledge in computers and maintaining website
  • Knowledge in Roma issues and Romani language.

Fundraising Volunteer

Qualifications and experience

Candidates should be strongly committed to working for human rights and equality for Roma people.

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience in developing funding proposals and budget (either through paid jobs, volunteering or from studies on fundraising)
  • Very good communication skills (writing and spoken), including a high standard of written and spoken English
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative while at the same time being able to work well within a small multicultural team
  • Strong planning and organisational skills and an ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Good IT skills (ability to use computer-based tools including electronic mail, and word processing) 
  • Experience of working in an NGO
  • Very good written and spoken French and/or Dutch (other languages would be an advantage)
  • Knowledge of Romani language
  • Knowledge of Roma issues, Roma related or anti-discrimination policies and/or experience of working with Roma communities or disadvantaged groups

Job description

Main tasks:
With support from the Executive Director and the Fundraiser Consultant, the volunteer will:
  • Assist the work of the Fundraiser Consultant (development of fundraising campaigns, fundraising databases and other related tasks)
  • Write and prepare all material needed for project proposals, including the budget
  • Donor and funding research whose criteria match ERIO’s aims and activities
