Founded in 2003, the European Roma Information Office (ERIO) is an international advocacy organisation which promotes political and public discussion on Roma issues by providing information to the EU institutions, civil society and governments. Through its wide network, it aims to combat racist discrimination and social exclusion of Roma through awareness raising, lobbying and policy development. 
We are now accepting applications for an External Fundraising Consultant to assist our Brussels based secretariat starting on 3 April 2017.
This position can only be granted to someone who is officially registered as independent consultant.

​Job description

Purpose of job: The consultant will be responsible to develop and implement ERIO’s fundraising strategy with institutional and non-institutional donors, in order to guarantee corporate and private donors for the organisation.
Reports to: Executive Director
Main tasks: Under the general guidance of the Executive Director, the consultant will:
  • Develop and implement ERIO’s fundraising strategy with institutional and non-institutional donors, in order to guarantee corporate and/or private donors
  • Identify opportunities of fundraising with institutional, non-institutional, private and corporate donors that can provide funds relevant for ERIO’s aims, activities and projects (e.g. online, via email, via phone, etc.)
  • Write and prepare all material needed for project proposals, including the budget
  • Maintain organised files of all fundraising information and fundraising databases
  • Perform other related duties that may be assigned

Qualifications and experience

​Candidates should be strongly committed to working for human rights and equality for Roma people. Additionally, they should have the qualification, experience and skills described below.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent 
  • Experience in fundraising with non-institutional donors (either through paid jobs, volunteering or from studies on fundraising)
  • Experience in developing funding proposals and budget (either through paid jobs, volunteering or from studies on fundraising) 
  • Very good communication skills (writing and spoken), including a high standard of written and spoken English
  • Very good interpersonal skills to interact with all organisational levels, including with potential and existing donors
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative while at the same time being able to work well within a small multicultural team
  • Strong planning and organisational skills and an ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Good IT skills (ability to use computer-based tools including electronic mail, and word processing)
  • Sense of responsibility, ability to think strategically with a result-oriented attitude 
  • Experience of working with and/or in an NGO
  • Very good written and spoken French and/or Dutch (other languages would be an advantage)
  • Knowledge of Romani language
  • Knowledge of Roma issues and/or experience of working with Roma communities and/or disadvantaged groups
